Dr Lal PathLabs Hits 52-Week High as Q1 FY27 Profit Jumps 28%; Brokerages Raise Targets to ₹2,195

Jaipur: Shares of Dr Lal PathLabs surged nearly 8% to a fresh 52-week high of ₹1,893.65 on the BSE on Monday, a day after India's leading diagnostics chain reported its strongest quarterly profit growth in years. The stock's rally, coming on top of a 22% gain so far in 2026 even as the broader Sensex has slipped, underlines how decisively the June-quarter numbers have shifted sentiment on the counter.

Strong Beat Across the Board

For the quarter ended June 2026, Dr Lal PathLabs reported a consolidated net profit of ₹169.5 crore, up 28% year-on-year from ₹134 crore in Q1 FY26 — the company's highest-ever quarterly profit. Revenue from operations climbed 19% YoY to ₹797.7 crore from ₹669.8 crore, marking the second straight quarter of growth above 15%.

Operating performance was equally strong. EBITDA rose nearly 29% YoY to ₹247 crore from ₹192 crore, with margins expanding 230 basis points to 31%. The board also approved an interim dividend of ₹5 per share, with July 30 set as the record date.

Management attributed the quarter's strength to robust patient and sample volume growth, a favourable shift in test mix, and improved realisation aided by the recent revision in CGHS rates. The company also indicated it could raise its FY27 growth guidance after the first half, having already flagged mid-teens revenue growth as the new expectation, up from the early-teens range projected earlier.

Brokerages Turn More Bullish

The Q1 beat has triggered a wave of target-price upgrades from brokerages tracking the stock, with revised targets pointing to as much as 25% further upside from Friday's closing price.

Nomura raised its FY27-29 earnings estimates by roughly 6% to reflect the stronger-than-expected quarter, factoring in higher revenue growth alongside slightly lower EBITDA margin assumptions. The brokerage set a September 2027 target price of ₹2,085, based on an unchanged 45x multiple on its September 2028 EPS estimate of ₹46.3. Nomura noted that the stock currently trades at 43x its September 2027 EPS estimate — near the lower end of the 40-60x band the stock has commanded over the past three years — and expects an improving revenue trajectory to support a re-rating.

JM Financial struck a similarly constructive tone, citing the company's market leadership, a structurally superior direct-to-consumer revenue mix, healthy cash generation and a broader revival of structural growth in the diagnostics industry. Valuing the stock at 48x its June 2028 EPS estimate, the brokerage arrived at a target price of ₹2,195 — the highest among the upgrades — while retaining its 'BUY' rating.

Emkay Global also raised its FY27 and FY28 revenue estimates by 2% and 3% respectively, pointing to the company's growing investments in radiology and international operations as potential additional growth levers over the medium term. It revised its target price up about 5% to ₹2,000 from ₹1,900, citing the company's strong net-cash balance sheet, industry-leading margins and stable return ratios.

Other brokerages tracking the counter, including Nuvama, have also revised their estimates and targets higher following the results, reinforcing the broadly positive Street reaction to the quarter.

Aurelius Business View

Dr Lal PathLabs' Q1 FY27 print is a reminder that in the diagnostics space, sustained volume growth combined with pricing tailwinds — such as the CGHS rate revision — can move both earnings and valuation multiples meaningfully in a single quarter. The fact that this marks the second consecutive quarter of over 15% revenue growth suggests the recovery in patient footfall and test volumes is not a one-off, but the brokerage commentary is right to flag that current valuations, even after the correction of the past year, already price in a fair amount of continued execution.

Investors would do well to watch two things going into H2 FY27: whether management does indeed raise formal growth guidance as hinted, and whether the company's radiology and international expansion can start contributing meaningfully to the topline rather than remaining a longer-term optionality. A strong balance sheet and industry-leading margins give Dr Lal PathLabs room to invest in these newer growth avenues without straining its core profitability — but the stock's premium valuation means the market will likely reward execution more than promises from here.
