Hyundai BAYON Launched at Rs 9.99 Lakh with AI Voice Assistant and Six Airbags: 5 Things to Know Before You Buy
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has launched its new mid-size SUV, the Hyundai BAYON, at a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 9,99,900. The company describes it as HMIL’s first SUV with an in-built generative AI voice assistant. According to MD and CEO Tarun Garg, the launch marks the start of Hyundai’s “next golden product cycle” in India. Manufactured in India, the SUV will also be exported to more than 50 markets.
An SUV You Can Talk To
The headline feature is the generative AI voice assistant, which combines Perplexity’s intelligence with SoundHound AI’s voice technology. The company says it can provide real-time information on travel, weather, hotels, restaurants, news and sports.
It comes with an NVIDIA-accelerated ccNC navigation cockpit featuring dual 12.3-inch curved displays. Other features include:
- More than 70 Bluelink connected features
- More than 500 embedded voice commands

Safety: Six Airbags Across All Variants
More than 35 safety features come as standard across all variants, including six airbags, ESC, hill-start assist, a roll-over sensor and TPMS. The SUV is built on the Global K Enhanced platform, with 69% advanced high-strength steel in its body.
The company claims over 80 safety features in total, including SmartSense Level 2 Pro ADAS (23 features, three radars and 12 parking sensors), Highway Driving Assist, a surround view monitor and a blind-spot view monitor.

The iVT adds Dash Boost Mode and Sporty Drive Tech. Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes, paddle shifters and Idle Stop & Go are also offered. The fuel tank capacity is 43 litres.

5 Things to Know Before You Buy
1. The AI assistant works only in English. According to the company’s footnote, voice interaction with the assistant is available in English only, and customers are advised to verify AI responses themselves. The infotainment screen supports 10 regional and 2 international languages, but that is a separate matter.
2. Rs 9.99 lakh is only the starting price. The release gives no variant-wise pricing or feature list. The company itself says SmartSense features may vary by variant. Ask the dealer in writing whether the sunroof, dual screens and ADAS are included in your chosen variant.
3. ADAS will not work on every road. Highway assist and navigation-based cruise control work only on expressways marked in the map data, and the system is not a substitute for safe driving.
4. No 5-star rating has been announced. The car is “engineered for 5-Star Indian Safety Standards”, which is the company’s internal assessment. No crash-test rating has been announced.
5. Brakes and spare wheel differ by variant. The rear brake is listed as “drum/disc”, depending on trim. The spare wheel (15-inch steel) is offered on all variants except HX2, which gets a tyre mobility kit.
The release also does not mention mileage (ARAI) or delivery dates.
Conclusion
On paper, the BAYON’s package is strong: six airbags across all variants, a proven engine, a panoramic sunroof and an AI assistant. The final verdict will depend on variant-wise pricing, features, and independent reviews and safety ratings. Take a test drive before booking.
