Have Old Paper Shares at Home? Purple Finance Is Giving You One Last Chance to Get Them Back

Stuck With Old Paper Shares? Purple Finance Gives a Last Chance Until 4 February 2027

An old folder in the cupboard holds yellowed share certificates, and with them a dream left unfinished for decades. Across the country, lakhs of senior investors are still holding on to physical shares that never got transferred to their names because of some missing document.

Now there is relief for such investors. Purple Finance Limited (BSE: 544191) has issued a reminder notice for a ‘Special Window’ to transfer such shares.

What Is the Latest News?

In its filing to BSE on 12 October 2026, the company said it had published the reminder notice for this window in newspapers. The notice appeared in Financial Express (English) and Mumbai Lakshdeep (Marathi).

The step has been taken in compliance with SEBI circulars dated 2 July 2025 and 30 January 2026.

Key points:

  • The window opened on 5 February 2026 and will run until 4 February 2027
  • That leaves investors with about 4 months
  • The company has urged investors who have not yet used this opportunity to apply soon

Moneycontrol Explains: What Is the Whole Matter?

What is SEBI’s special window?
Earlier, many investors’ transfer requests for physical shares were returned because of incomplete or incorrect documents. SEBI has given such investors one more chance to secure their rights over their securities.

What is the relationship between Canopy Finance and Purple Finance?
According to the notice, the Mumbai Bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved the scheme to merge Canopy Finance Limited into Purple Finance. The merger took effect on 15 February 2024.

This means shareholders of the old Canopy Finance are also eligible for this window, provided their transfer request was lodged before 1 April 2019 and was rejected or returned due to missing documents. They must also still hold the original share certificate.

Who Can Apply?

You are eligible if:

  • Your transfer request was lodged before 1 April 2019
  • It was rejected, returned, or not processed due to deficiencies in the documents
  • You still hold the original share certificate

Step-by-Step Guide: What Should You Do Now?

Step 1: Gather documents. Take out the original transfer documents and correct the deficiency or fill in the missing details.

Step 2: Keep a Demat account ready. Shares will be issued only in Demat form, so you need an active account.

Step 3: Send to the RTA. Submit the documents to the company’s Registrar and Transfer Agent, Purva Sharegistry (India) Private Limited. For queries, the company has given these emails in the notice:

Step 4: Get confirmation. After applying, keep following up by email on the status and keep all receipts safe. Also ask the RTA in advance which additional identity documents are needed.

Caution! Note These Conditions

  • Shares only in Demat: After transfer, shares will be issued only in demat form, not on paper.
  • 1-year lock-in: After transfer, you cannot sell or pledge the shares for one year.
  • Not covered: Cases under dispute in court or NCLT, and shares that have already moved to the IEPF (Investor Education and Protection Fund).

Conclusion for Investors

If you or your parents hold old paper shares, don’t ignore them any longer. Lying in a file, they do nothing for you, but once in demat they will show up as part of your assets. After the lock-in, you can decide whether to sell or hold them.

The most important thing is to start early. Correcting documents can take time, and there is a risk of missing out in the last-minute rush.

Deadline Reminder

Last date: 4 February 2027. After this, the special opportunity will no longer be available.
